I know its a pretty simple place restaurant, but is that it?

Hey Miguel,
I actually think that Five Loaves is overhyped and overrated– I’m writing satirically to point this out. Not to take away from the people who work at and own the place (who are all very nice), it’s just that a soup and sandwich lunch place is nothing new and can be found anywhere. And the soups and sandwiches at Five Loaves are nothing special. (I also don’t think the Mustard Seed is amazing, which somehow lands in the same category). I am a proponent of middle priced, good quality restaurants, especially independently owned places, I just wish we had better options.

I have to disagree with rottenoysters…. I think Five Loaves is a well done restaurant. Yes it is just soups, salads and sandwiches, but way better than the competition. The meats are roasted in house daily and everything is fresh- that is hard to find. And, the staff is wonderful. Cannon street is my favorite location… you should try the dinners- then you will see how great it is.

I’ve been to Five Loaves several times. It’s generally been a pleasant experience. I like their soup and sandwiches. I ordered the smoked salmon salad the other night and it was AWFUL. The menu read “Smoke salmon, roasted corn, grilled green onions, and capers over greens.” The salad was loaded with capers and had too much salmon in proportion to the greens. It was salty to the point of nastiness. The corn was too dry and sparse to offer a sweet counterpoint. I’m going to stick to the sandwiches for a while.
