Mondo’s

I’ve tried to like this place for years and while I don’t think it’s terrible, I don’t think its good either. If I am going to eat Italian food in a decrepit, outdated space, it should be excellent. The portions are large, the prices are moderately high, and the food is unremarkable. I think this speaks to the quality (or lack therof) of good, simple, middle priced Italian eateries in the area. Though somehow, the dining room remains packed. On a lighter note, the lunch is decent and well priced with huge portions and pleasant service. I wish I could like Mondo’s more but I don’t.
Visits to Mondo’s: +10
Prices: entrees around $18.

Agree/Disagree. The regular menu is unimpressive, but I think the specials are always very good. As for eating food in “a decrepit, outdated space” as far as I can tell this fits the bill for most of the restaurants in Charleston. So there must be many bad reviews in the works if the food does not meet your “excellent” standards that particular night.
Comment by Stephen A. Smith October 7, 2006 @ 5:13 amI hear you Stephen, though i wouldn’t say most restaurants are both outdated and decrepit in Charleston. Luckily, most are only the former. Also, as I said, it’s not a particular experience at Mondo’s that has led me to write this review but rather many visits. We atleast try to be fair. Anyway, thanks for the input.
