I have heard a lot of slander about this new edition to the fb center street (from the raval/poe’s people). A few people have told me that it is the worst food ever. I’m pretty sure that those people are not well. If you want to experience some severely messed up taco/burrito food, refer to La Cocina (Folly Rd). I think Taco Boy is doing it’s best.
Taco Boy has a well designed atmosphere and good, almost authentic taqueria food. Though you wouldn’t find most of these tacos at an authentic taqueria (who use simpler, more humble ingredients), a lot of the elements are well done–you are offered corn tortilla tacos which are far more authentic than the gringo grocery store flour alternative along with interesting fresh salsas and good guacamole. Taco Boy also has a good tequila selection and decent margaritas. As a taqueria not as good as La Nortena or any of the taco trucks that circle N. Chas but as a restaurant it’s pretty decent.
visits: 4
price: $2-$4 per taco, around $6 for a margarita.

The food at Taco Boy is good but their service is terrible. It seems to me the staff is stoned all the time. Maybe its all part of the Folly Beach cultural experience but when you have a hard time getting your servers attention to get silverware after you’ve gotten your food there is definitely a problem. Been there several times and the food is consistently good though. Their margaritas could use a bit more tequila as well.
Comment by leroy October 26, 2006 @ 8:55 pmi agree with you on the service, though sometimes i’ve had really attentive service at taco boy. I also agree on the margarita being a bit weak. As an “authentic” taqueria, I wish taco boy would make a margarita with squirt soda, lime juice, decent tequila, and ice like they actually drink in Mexico–it’s way better than the tequila slushies we drink here. Anyhow, thanks for the input, Leroy.
Comment by rottenoysters October 26, 2006 @ 10:57 pmHad to read your review.Meeting friends there this week sometime. One minor correction, Mexican women I have met take flour tortillas very seriously. Generations together in the kitchen making tons of them in one afternoon.I can assume you were not lumping those in as a Gringo delight. Thanks again for accurate, honest assessments of local spots. Additionally, I gotta admit, though you visited early, noone’s take on Uno Mas to this date has been any different than yours. Good call.
Comment by food 4 thought July 15, 2007 @ 3:08 amthanks food—good clarification on the flour tacos. The homemade version is indeed delicious and special—I am talking more about the terrible super market version. If taco boy added beef cheek, tripe, tongue, or cabeza tacos to its menu I would rewrite this whole post immediately. Also, I’m glad you agree on Uno Mas–even though I reviewed it early, I’ve eaten so much of Sal Parco’s food that I felt justified assessing it before the papers did.
Comment by rottenoysters July 18, 2007 @ 2:37 amI like their fish tacos. Great eats. Like every restaurants, just stick with their good dishes and stay FAR away from the bad ones.
